Overview:

HI-Boston is searching for a capable and motivated individual to help support its community engagement department. This individual will be responsible for supporting community based events, enhancing its travel education series, recruiting volunteers and supporting other hostel outreach efforts. Community engagement is a major priority for Hostelling International USA, with an emphasis placed on building a community of travelers at each of its hostels and fostering intercultural exchange and awareness. The Community Engagement intern will be instrumental in supporting these initiatives. Since its opening in June 2012, HI-Boston helped establish this dynamic through community events, partnerships, volunteers and outreach. The ideal candidate will have event planning, travel and community outreach experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help plan and implement ongoing community events in HI-Boston's Community Room
  • Help recruit speakers for monthly travel workshop series held at HI-Boston
  • Support social media outreach through Facebook and Twitter
  • Establish connections with local networks and organizations to expand awareness of events & programming
  • Help recruit and track volunteers for various traveler activities and community programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Community events and outreach experience
  • Communications background a plus
  • Travel experience
  • Proactive self-starter
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and GoogleDocs

Time Commitment and Work Location:

  • Summer (Late May-August 2013)
  • 10 hours per week
  • Office space at HI-Boston located on 19 Stuart Street, Chinatown
