Organizational Overview

Resource Development Associates strengthens efforts to promote social and economic justice for vulnerable populations. We provide consultation to city, county, state agencies and non-profit organizations through the provision of planning, evaluation, resource and organizational development, data analysis, facilitation, training and technical support. All of our efforts are aimed at addressing persistent social, health and economic problems of populations served by public agencies.

You will work with a small team of dedicated individuals in a supportive environment that will allow you to take on as much challenge as you can manage while working with acknowledged experts in their field.

RDA supervises and mentors interns from schools of social work, public policy, public administration, management, organizational development, organizational psychology and other programs of higher education degrees. In many instances, interns are offered and accept full time positions at the end of their internship.

Responsibilities/Learning Opportunities

During the course of your internship you will be asked to participate in some or all of the following:

  • Conduct research on best practices, literature reviews, and service and treatment methodologies on a broad range of topics, disciplines and diverse population groups;
  • Assist in development of position papers, policy analyses, and needs assessments; evaluation plans, data collection tools and data analysis;
  • Organize and conduct focus groups and key informant interviews, and develop summaries and analysis of findings;
  • Attend and facilitate meetings, workshops, and conferences on behalf of RDA;
  • Respond to requests for data information from city, county and non-profit organizations;
  • Obtain, organize, code, clean and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and review datasets to ensure understanding of data structure and meaning, and to clarify assumptions, outcomes and findings;
  • Develop a data analysis plan, outlining research methodology, analytical questions, sampling and testing information and select appropriate statistical tests and consider all variables for data analysis;
  • Assist in development of strategic plans for community revitalization and social change;
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation of outcomes;
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations and finalize budgets for grants and RFPs;
  • Prepare and conduct quality review of report charts and graphs to ensure completeness, accuracy and relevance;
  • Prepare written submissions in response to requests for proposals;
  • Draft and finalize evaluation reports, strategic plans, grants and needs assessments;
  • Develop sound program logic models and evaluation plans;
  • Other duties as assigned in relationship to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Interns will have some experience working within a broad range of social issue areas and disciplines, enjoy fact finding and research, welcome opportunities to develop new areas of expertise, have excellent writing skills and data analysis skills, and have experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse communities. In addition, they will possess the following:

  • Currently enrolled in Masters or Ph.D level program in public health, psychology, sociology, urban planning, education, organizational development or related field;
  • Work experience in governmental or non-profit organizations preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience in being a quick learner, self-directed, and committed to social and economic justice;
  • Experience working with qualitative and quantitative data;
  • Computer skills including competency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ;
  • Working knowledge of SPSS or other statistical analysis software a plus;
  • Multi-lingual skills very helpful;
  • Driver's License and access to a registered and insured vehicle for use in carrying out job related duties;
  • Excellent organization skills, work habits and verbal and written communication skills, and;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as a member or leader of a team.
