ABOUT FRAMELINE

Founded in 1977, Frameline's mission is to strengthen the diverse LGBT community and further its visibility by supporting and promoting a broad array of cultural representations and artistic expression in film, video and other media arts. Frameline's integrated programs provide critical funding for emerging LGBT filmmakers, reach hundreds of thousands with a collection of more than 250 films distributed nationally, and create an international stage for the world's best queer film through the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival and additional screenings and cinematic events.

THE POSITION

The Volunteer Program Intern is responsible for assisting the Volunteer Coordinator with recruiting, training, coordinating and supervising 400 to 500 volunteers before and during Frameline37 (June 20 – 30, 2013), ensuring that all volunteer shifts are covered and that all Film Festival staff are suitably supported by volunteers. This is a fun, fast paced position that will provide the intern with a variety of festival management experience.

Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator

Commitment: Early May –July 11th

(at least 2 days per week/minimum 10 hours) prior to the Festival. Must be available for entire 11 days of Frameline37 (June 20-30, 2013)

Compensation: Unpaid internship

Students can arrange to receive credit for their internship and should see their advisors or department chairs for procedures and requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with film festival operations/event management
  • Familiarity with LGBT Community
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and telephone skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented and demonstrated attention to accuracy
  • Responsive to unpredictable workflow and hours
  • A 10-16 hour per week commitment for 12 consecutive weeks
  • Previous Volunteer Management experience desired
  • Fluency in Macintosh-based applications including MS Office and Filemaker Pro
  • Flexible, creative, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude and a good sense of humor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research/Outreach
  • Recruiting and managing volunteers for Pre-festival and festival needs
  • Assisting Volunteer Coordinator with volunteer orientations, volunteer scheduling, and confirmation of shifts
  • Database entry and management
  • Assist with maintaining Shiftboard.com volunteer scheduling system/database
  • Utilize Shiftboard database to create shifts and schedule volunteers
  • Communication with volunteers, retrieving and responding to emails and voicemail messages
  • General assisting of Volunteer Coordinator prior to and during the festival
  • Manage volunteers at key events
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff and event meetings
  • Remain on-call during Film Festival for emergencies and unexpected changes
  • Complete post-Film Festival written wrap report
