The Position
The purpose of this position is to assist the Signature Events Department to ensure that the community we serve supports the organization via donor cultivation. The functions are carried out in collaboration with Executive Management, Communications, Event Management, and Program staff. The position reports to the Regional Director of Signature Events.
The Special Events Intern will develop a work plan in collaboration with the staff that will include some or all of the following functions:
- Providing administrative support to the events and communications team for our four signature Walk to Defeat ALS events, annual Ride to Defeat ALS in Napa Valley, and other potential high-profile events throughout the year.
- Aid in logistical planning of Walk to Defeat ALS™ and supporting events day-of.
- Assist with duties requiring an understanding of The ALS Association's programs and procedures.
- Assisting with the preparation and implementation of donor recognition as needed.
- Processing Donor Information in Data Base (Convio and Donor Pro) as needed.
- Support fundraising efforts, research potential sponsors and in-kind donors.
- Research and develop external avenues to promote and publicize events.
- Contribute to content of Chapter newsletters, website, and e-communications.
- Conduct community outreach to increase visibility of our organization and further our mission; attend health fairs, respond to information requests, assist in the development of potential partnerships with corporations, other agencies and organizations.
- Assist in any social media promotion for events.
- Assist in post event activities, thank you letters, and data entry.
- Attend Chapter special events as desired
- Other related duties as agreed upon between intern and supervisor
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduate, or equivalent experience
- Candidate must be a leader, well organized, detail-oriented and able to work under pressure.
- Responsible and dedicated with a desire to serve the community.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Outgoing and flexible with a willingness to work under deadlines.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel.
- Skilled with word processing, spreadsheets and use of graphics/logos in documents
- Special Events planning experience and interest in the work and mission of The ALS Association is a plus.
- Registered & insured car owner is a plus. Car may be used for local travel. (Mileage will be reimbursed)
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
- Possess a professional demeanor
Compensation
- This is a non-paid internship; however some past interns have been hired by the organization as opportunities arise.
- There is no compensation for relocation, housing, etc.

Time Commitment
The schedule is flexible between the hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. A minimum of 8 hours per week is required.
