Internship description

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition seeks a talented and enthusiastic Communications and New Media Intern for the summer of 2012. This year's intern will have the opportunity to work on a major Public Service Announcement campaign focused on fair housing issues. Start and end dates are flexible, but we're looking for at least a two month commitment between June-September. The internship carries a $300/month stipend.

Position Summary: The intern supports communication strategies for the organization, which may include research, writing and distribution. The intern believes in the National Community Reinvestment Coalition's (NCRC) mission, is a high-energy and creative team player, and has superb relationship building and stewardship talents. Our interns do substantive work and get exposed to a range of issues, including fair housing and fair lending, grassroots organizing and advocacy, community and economic development, and workforce development.

RANGE OF ASSIGNMENTS (Depending on hours per week available, length of service, organizational priorities, and candidate talents)

  • Research and draft a variety of written content (fact sheets, press releases, text for web pages or social networking sites, blog posts, op-eds, letters to newspaper editors).
  • Monitor and distribute articles in print, TV, radio and new media
  • Assist with media, blogger and online outreach
  • Build and update media contact lists. Produce multimedia content, including photos and videos. Attend and help with logistics for various meetings and events.
  • Make routine postings to Facebook, Twitter and blogs.
  • Attend and take notes for congressional hearings on Capitol Hill
  • Distribute press release templates, sample op-ed and Letters to the Editor for use in local communities.
  • Perform other communications functions as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled in college as a junior or senior; graduate student; or experience in the communications or legislative campaign fields
  • Some experience in the areas of work helpful.

  • High initiative and proactive leadership.
