About Us: The Missouri Energy Initiative (MEI) is a nonprofit association of public and private sector entities. MEI is about culture change in Missouri to reverse current trends of poor public support for energy innovation, technology and education. We believe that providing greater access to non-partisan, science-based information is critical to changing the culture and the mindset of citizens and decision makers. MEI works to enhance and improve the energy business climate in Missouri by coordinating energy activities across all sectors of the Missouri economy, being an honest broker of energy information to the general public, educating K-12, Tech Schools and Higher Education students on energy issues, informing elected officials at the state and federal level on Missouri energy opportunities and issues, and providing a rich environment for energy research and development activities in the state.
General Purpose of Internship: MEI is looking for interns to provide assistance in three key program areas; (1) Missouri Energy Asset Inventory Project; (2) Energy Public Policy Review; (3) Energy Information Curator. This is an excellent opportunity to gain skills and exposure to business leaders, the workings of public policy development and public/private partnerships in the nonprofit sector.

MEI will work with your College or University to provide proper credit and oversight with the potential for compensation based on experience.
Workdays: 10-20 hours per week at the student's choice. Due to virtual component of the work, this requires a self-driven individual. Little travel required. School holidays and vacations will be respected. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is necessary and history with web content development helpful. Work can be done from campus with occasional site visits from Executive Director and weekly calls to discuss progress and provide needed oversight.

PUBLIC POLICY ASSOCIATE
Research, track, synthesize, and summarize public policy issues affecting the Missouri energy sector. Assist in the preparation of materials to communicate policy issues to the organizational partners, energy stakeholders, decision makers, elected officials, educators, students and the general public. Work with business and community leaders across Missouri for the completion of the Missouri Energy Asset Inventory project. Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Help with communications and media strategy as needed.
Preferred candidate will have proven writing skills; understanding of energy issues and policy; have a proven understanding of public policy formation and implementation; ability to use the internet, some knowledge of marketing tools is a plus, and an interest in energy and the nonprofit sector.
