Internship description

Position Description:

This is a six-month fellowship position. The ideal candidate will have experience with traditional and social media. The candidate will have an interest in expanding upon knowledge and best practices of both traditional and social media including but not limited to pulling press clips, drafting media advisories and press releases, pitching, tracking analytics, creating engaging content for a social media community of 15,000 individuals. The ideal candidate has an interest with the policy issues Young Invincibles works on (health care, higher education, jobs, and entrepreneurship), is an exceptional writer and communicator, and communicates effectively and professionally. Must work well as a team and also individually.

Principal Responsibilities:

The Communications and Social Media Fellow is responsible for assisting the Community Manager and Digital Strategist and the National Communications Manager in creating engaging content for the thousands of members of Young Invincibles' online community as well as in many aspects of traditional media, including:

  • Assisting with maintaining blog schedule and helping to create content.
  • Providing content on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram for report releases and Young Invincibles campaigns.
  • Drafting media releases, advisories and pitch scripts as needed.
  • Assisting with the implementation of the overall social media strategy for the organization.
  • Pitch calling to local media outlets as needed.
  • Tracking and compiling media clips and posting on the YI website.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 1 year online organizing, campaigning or communications experience
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Up-to-date experience in social media
  • Familiarity with health care reform, higher education and/or jobs is a plus
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced work environment and a start-up atmosphere
  • Must thrive on change, innovation, and teamwork
  • Interest in long-term position with Young Invincibles is a plus
  • A passion for Young Invincibles' mission

Compensation:

Monthly stipend commensurate with experience.
