Reports to:Girls' LEAP Mentor Programs Coordinator

Hours per week:30-40 hours/week

Internship dates: To Be Confirmed, Tentatively June 28th-July 26th

Working relationships:Girls' LEAP full-time staff, Teaching Women, Teen Mentors

Girls' LEAP (Lifetime Empowerment & Awareness Program) trains girls aged 8-18 in verbal and physical safety skills and self-awareness. Girls' LEAP partners with Community Based Organizations across Greater Boston to provide programming for girls in their own neighborhoods.

Qualifications:

  • BA or current undergraduate student
  • Commitment to Girls' LEAP values of female empowerment, intergenerational teamwork, strength-based instruction and personal dedication to mission
  • Experience working with girls 8-18 years of age
  • Comfort with physical movement
  • Bilingual applicants encouraged to apply

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Assist Girls' LEAP Teacher with teaching and classroom management
  • Teach 6-8 intensive week-long programs throughout July, often two per day
  • Participate in physical demonstrations during programming
  • Provide one on one physical instruction with program participants
  • Lead small group discussions and activities with program participants
  • Participate in staff preparation and debrief time
  • Attend weekly Teaching Woman Meetings (1.5 hours/week) led by Student Coordinator
  • Assist supervisor and other Girls' LEAP staff with program administration, management, and data collection
  • Represent Girls' LEAP at community outreach events, fairs and parent meetings to raise awareness of Girls' LEAP programs
  • Other tasks as they are assigned by supervisor

Compensation

  • This is an unpaid internship
  • Girls' LEAP will work with interns for academic credit , community service experience, or work-study if eligible
