CLUES offers behavioral health and human services to Latino and diverse communities in Minnesota, including: Mental Health Services, Chemical Health Services, Aging Well Services, Family Enrichment Services, Economic Advancement Services (Employment, Education, and Financial Empowerment), and Community Health Worker Services. We employ a fully bilingual and multicultural staff in order to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate services in a nurturing environment where clients and families can overcome some of life's most challenging issues.
Purpose of Position:
- This position is working with children ages 3-10 whose parents are attending CLUES ESL classes. Youth Program teachers assist students with strengthening their literacy skills and serving as a positive mentor for the students. Volunteers will work cooperatively in the classroom to supervise and educate multicultural students through literacy-based games and activities. This includes leading group activities, reading stories, engaging children during "choice" time, and communicating with parents.
Position Type: Unpaid volunteer service or internship
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 10:00am-12:30pm or 6:00pm-8:30pm.
- Volunteers commit to teaching one daytime or evening class per week, for the entire term.
- Interns commit to teach 2-4 daytime orevening classes per week, for the entire term.
- Commit to 20-40 hour/week; flexible, within the timeframe of Monday – Thursday, 9:00am – 8:30pm.

Responsibilities:
- Follow lesson plans when provided or create new ways to introduce learning games and activities in reading, art, early math, and science
- Assist in classroom supervision.
- Assist in developmental assessments of children and report progress to the Children's Program coordinator
- Work cooperatively with children and families of diverse culture backgrounds
- Interns will also be given opportunities in lesson planning, coordinating, classroom material development, and outreach.
CLUES reserves the right to terminate an internship or volunteer commitment if behavior is not in compliance with CLUES policies.
Qualifications:
- Commit to volunteering at least one evening per week for the entire term
- Be responsible, punctual, encouraging, flexible and friendly when working with your students and CLUES staff
- Interest and/or experience in tutoring or early-childhood education
- Previous teaching and/or tutoring experience is preferred but not required.
- Sufficient Spanish language skills to communicate with children ages 3-10
- Be open and respectful to diverse life experiences, values and backgrounds
Requirements & Training:
- Initial interview and orientation with Educational Enrichment Services Coordinator
- Attend the CLUES New Volunteer Orientation Training
- Optional: Shadow one Children's Program class
