Position Summary
The intern will assist with administering reading tests, collection and maintenance of student data (report cards, school feedback), as well as assisting the WMRECC staff on program needs that help maximize the students' educational experience.
Expected Educational Outcomes
- Develop an understanding of the day-to-day issues that refugee families face as they become part of contemporary American Society
- Learn the educational requirements for managing, following up on, and evaluating students' performance in and outside the classroom
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain up-to-date educational case files for the students through reaching out to teachers and parents for progress updates and report cards throughout the semester
- Conduct academic background assessments for the students
- Conduct literacy evaluations for each student
- Help oversee daily volunteer activity, ensuring that the volunteers are being employed to the best of their ability to assist students.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in college (Majors in Social Work, Education, Public Administration, International Relations and related fields encouraged to apply)
- Strong verbal and writing skills.
- Ability to work with children of all ages (K-12)
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to work as part of a team
