The American Red Cross International Services Department (ISD) seeks to prevent and alleviate human suffering around the world by responding to disasters, building safer, more resilient communities, and educating future humanitarians. In the coming years the American Red Cross will deepen and expand its programming around the world while also working to strengthen the global Red Cross Red Crescent network, in order to deliver vital help and hope to some of the most vulnerable communities.

SUMMARY:

The American Red Cross seeks an intern to support Restoring Family Links (RFL) casework administration at the national headquarters office. The RFL program helps reconnect families separated internationally by war, disaster and humanitarian emergencies.

The American Red Cross seeks an intern to support Restoring Family Links (RFL) casework administration at the national headquarters office. The RFL program helps reconnect families separated internationally by war, disaster and humanitarian emergencies.

We are looking for a paid intern who can work 10-20 hours per week for twelve weeks, beginning in January 2013.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include:

  • Send casework correspondence to American Red Cross chapters and international partners.
  • Casework data entry in the Restoring Family Links case management database.
  • Answering case related questions from chapters and international partners.
  • Other duties as assigned which may include research on refugee and immigrant populations and/or assistance in updating/revising materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Student working towards a bachelor or master's degree in a related field.
  • Computer skills and familiarity working with case management databases as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to take direction and meet deadlines.
  • Must be responsible, mature, highly organized, able to handle multiple tasks at the same time, meet deadlines, and able to work independently.
