Description

Overview of position: The Nutritional Studies Intern will be responsible researching and documenting the nutritional value of food products made during Iskashitaa's Food Preservation Workshops. Products are made from recipes based on the availability of locally harvested fruits and vegetables from Tucson backyards and local farms, and work with a team of volunteers and United Nations' refugees. Intern will help educate the public about nutritional value and sustainability of preserving foods and lowering food waste.

Specific Tasks:

  1. Research nutritional value for Iskashitaa food products
  2. Create materials with nutritional value for Iskashitaa food products
  3. Create documents for refugees that highlight healthy and balanced eating practices

Time Required: 3-9 hours per week. Equivalent of 2 or 3 credit course hours.

Qualifications: In process of completing 4 year degree or the equivalency in experience

Physical/Age Requirements: None/ Adult

Skills/Education:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral communication and writing skills
  • Pursuing a degree in Nutrition, Medicine or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client/donor information
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail
  • Strong intercultural communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from other cultural backgrounds

Experience: Minimum of two year previous nonprofit or volunteer work or the equivalent

Training Required: On-site Iskashitaa training, Refugee 101 and internship application.
