Internship description

Retail Network Intern, Healthy Neighborhoods:

City Harvest is seeking a Retail Intern to work with the Healthy Food Retailer team to launch a new educational network initiative for small stores in our five target neighborhoods (the South Bronx, Washington Heights/Inwood, the North Shore of Staten Island, Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn and Northwest Queens/LIC.) At the end of the internship, the candidate with have a solid understanding of the opportunities and challenges of organizing a community-based effort to improve the food landscape by working with critically important small businesses.

Major responsibilities:

Provide support to Healthy Food Retailer team by assisting with planning and administrationof new retail networks in five New York City neighborhoods:

  • Partner with Healthy Food Retailer team to canvass prospective store managers for recruitment to local network
  • Work in the field to verify and update contact lists and maps of store locations, ownership, proximity to public transportation, schools and major employers
  • Work with Associate Director to organize meetings, including researching industry and small business experts for meetings, researching educational materials and videos. Organize these resources and contacts in a program database.
  • Develop and facilitate network communications, including meeting invitations, records, contact lists, agendas, and assist with program follow‐up, including correspondence to participants, guests and sponsors.
  • Assist with securing space and meeting logistics, including communications, materials, and documents for meetings.
  • Provide marketing support including recruitment outreach, invitations and background materials needed for meetings.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Friendly, outgoing, flexible, can-do attitude
  • Reliable, conscientious and timely
  • Must Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and available for some evening meetings
  • Ability to speak Spanish a strong plus
