Special Events Intern Job Description

Position: The Special Events Intern will work directly with the Events Manager and Events Coordinator in the planning and implementation of the Flavors of Connecticut event.

Flavors is a culinary experience that goes beyond the traditional gala and provides each table of attendees with a local chef who will prepare a multi-course dinner tableside. The meal that is delivered will showcase the signature dishes of our culinary experts and take you beyond the usual restaurant fare. Unleash your inner "foodie" and experience a distinct evening of dining while helping to fund the research, education and advocacy efforts of the American Liver Foundation

Responsibilities:

  • Contact businesses to ask for donations via email, mailings and phone calls
  • Recruit Volunteers via volunteer websites and word of mouth
  • Maintain an organized list of donations as they come in
  • Create a display piece and bid sheet for each auction item to be used in auction area
  • Assist with creating a catalog description for each auction item
  • Assist with donor acknowledgement and guest/sponsor follow up
  • Promote the event via event calendar postings and disbursement of Press Releases
  • Expected to attend a few evening meetings
  • Work with staff to coordinate all materials needed for events
  • The Flavors of CT event will be your main focus but you may need to assist with other projects, events, office duties, etc as needed.

Skills Needed:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher and Internet Research
  • Previous related experience in fundraising or event planning a plus
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, good organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Neat personal appearance
  • Ability to talk to people comfortably
  • Flexible Schedule
  • Works well in individually or in group setting

Start Date: As soon as possible

Hours: 10-12 hours week, preferably twice a week in the office. Must be available all day for the event on April 9, 2013

Compensation: This is an Unpaid/Volunteer Internship. Individuals can receive internship credit for this experience.
