Internship description

Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly motivated Public Relations (PR) Intern with loads of personality and a solid interest in learning about the industry and creating key working contacts. The right candidate will help execute the department's media strategy for the organization's diverse programs, including: performance, art, film, food and wine events, fashion, book events, etc. . The intern will become familiarized with the New York media landscape while helping to secure coverage of FIAF's broad range of cultural programming. He/she will be the right hand to the PR Director and support FIAF's mission of increasing knowledge of the French language and interaction among French, Francophone and American cultures.

What to expect:

  • On-the-job experience in the Marketing & Communications department and great exposure to the best of contemporary French culture in New York.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily media monitoring and organize/produce press books
  • Manage all event listings and help with pitching
  • Research new media outlets and update press lists
  • Collaborate on press releases for programs and events
  • Support the PR Director on-site at FIAF events
  • General administrative/marketing duties

Education/Skills Required:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree or higher
  • Motivation to work in the PR industry
  • Strong writing skills – must be native English speaker
  • Strong attention to detail, well organized and able to multi-task
  • Strong interest in the arts and desire to work in a Francophile/multi-cultural environment

Compensation:

Intern will receive a monthly travel stipend.

French classes and membership are also offered.

Commitment:

We are looking for someone to assist in the PR Department full-time or part-time starting immediately, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week for six months.

FIAF is a multi-disciplinary cultural organization. Its mission is to promote and enhance the knowledge and appreciation of French and Francophone culture, to increase the knowledge of the French language, and to encourage interaction among French, Francophone and American people through education and cultural programs. FIAF presents Cinema, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and social event programs. FIAF has the largest private French library in the U.S. and is home to the FIAF Language Center, one of the country's leading centers for the study of the French language.
