Internship description

The Position

This internship offers the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a non-profit organization while helping an inner-city school secure scholarship funding for poverty-ridden youth. In addition to building strong development skill sets, through this internship, you will be exposed you to many of the most pressing issues poverty stricken families face and you will learn practical ways to address them. In this internship, you will will gain broad exposure to non-profit management and fundraising, including: development operations, donor communication, grant-writing, and research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with grant proposals
  • Help maintain donor database
  • Help create and send out donor mailings
  • Answer donor phone calls
  • Brainstorm innovative ideas to acquire new donors
  • Network with local and international businesses to expand contacts and resources

Desired Skills:

  • Flexibility, drive and a sense of humor
  • Demonstrated interest in non-profit development
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of database management (not required, but nice to have)
  • Tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
  • Ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously

Time Commitment:

  • Interns must work at least one day per week for a minimum of 4 hours.
  • Days and times are flexible.
  • 3 month commitment minimum
