Internship description

JBFCS – a large, social service agency located in mid-town Manhattan is looking for a social media intern who meets the qualifications below – and wants to have some fun. We serve very vulnerable populations that people need to hear about – and hear about often.

The Social Media Intern/Associate should be a Jack or Jill of all [digital] trades with incredible intelligence, personality and creative energy. The qualified candidate will be able to elevate JBFCS in the social media universe so that our name, brand and mission are far more popular than they are today. The position reports directly to the Online Communications Coordinator, with a dotted line relationship to the Media & Press Coordinator. This person will be part of the External Affairs team bringing experience with e-communications, social media, analytical skills and working knowledge of content management system(s) to this role.

Qualifications:

  • A real boffo of social media.
  • A problem-solver and creative thinker.
  • Ability to work independently or in concert with a wide array of varied staff from multiple programs.
  • Good working knowledge of html.
  • Good computer skills are needed (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • Working knowledge of Social Media tools like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+, etc
  • Solid understanding of the internet and social media marketing best practices
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities/job duties:

  1. Active role in maintaining and growing JBFCS' social media presence via Twitter, (Facebook), Google+, YouTube, etc. This can include developing creative content to engage the folks in our social media audience as well as capture those who aren't (yet).
  2. Monitor trends in social media tools and discuss ways these could be applicable/implemented/tailored for JBFCS.
  3. Adhering to agency's brand guidelines—i.e. the voice, tone and personality of JBFCS in addition guidelines about logo usage.
  4. Designing/creating targeted eblasts on a monthly, weekly or as needed basis.
  5. Segmenting, importing and updating email contact lists.
  6. Occasional research and assistance in implementing/development of new tools—i.e. ways Pinterest can be incorporated in the non-profit sector, how twitter could be used with our next event or top 3 email marketing tools.
  7. Updating and maintaining the EA project tracking report.
  8. Act as backup to Online Communications Coordinator—adding, editing, modifying content in CMS for the web site as well as the agency's intranet.
