Internship description

DC Social Innovation Project, Inc. (DCSIP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that identifies and invests in creative new ideas that tackle pressing social issues. Since 2011, we have convened and awarded over $100,000 in funding and pro bono services to help community members and small non-profits launch nine innovative projects addressing issues including unemployment, education, and access to healthy food.

We are currently laying the groundwork to replicate our model in South Florida this year and are seeking two talented individuals to serve as Operations & Engagement Fellows

Fellows will assist the board of directors with the following tasks:

Operations

  • Secure volunteers and businesses to provide pro bono services to our grantees (includes identifying prospects and conducting initial outreach)
  • Lead planning of periodic fundraising and friendraising events to engage the community and donors in our work
  • Assist with implementation of corporate sponsorship strategy by identifying and contact potential companies to sponsor grants

Engagement

  • Manage media calendar and compile/create items for newsletter and blog
  • Maintain and grow media contact list and engage media outlets around certain stories and announcements
  • Manage Twitter and Facebook profiles by scheduling and posting original and curated content weekly
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization at relevant community events from time-to-time
  • Secure community partnerships to assist with identifying grant applicants (includes identify prospects and conducting initial outreach)
  • Secure opportunities for team to present vision and work to business and community groups
  • Assist with identification and outreach to potential board members

This is a virtual/telework position, however you must be located in the Broward / Miami-Dade area as there will be in-person meetings and activities (which may occasionally occur in the evenings or weekends). It is anticipated that this position will require approximately 10 hours per week. This is an unpaid position; benefits include exposure to different aspects of a startup venture; networking opportunities with partners, donors, and board members; and the opportunity to help shape a growing social enterprise. A stipend may become available based on performance and funding.

Desired qualifications and traits

  • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a propensity to plan ahead and anticipate potential roadblocks and alternative strategies
  • Resourcefulness and "can do" attitude -- seeing challenges as an opportunity to be innovative or creative
  • Self-motivated and able to work without constant supervision
  • Enthusiasm and engaging personality
