RESEARCH INTERNSHIP in Health Psychology at UCSF
Maternal Adiposity, Metabolism and Stress (MAMAS) Study: A mindful eating intervention to improve the well-being and weight of pregnant, low income mothers and babies.
The research program is focused on relationships between stress and effects on eating, obesity, bodily and cellular aging, and transmission of health to offspring in women. The PI's include Dr.'s Elissa Epel, Barbara Laraia, Cassi Vieten and Nancy Adler. Volunteering provides experience relevant to careers in medicine, psychology, public health, and mind-body research. Positions require a minimum of 10 hours volunteering a week at UCSF for 6 months. We are looking for a bilingual (English and Spanish) research assistant to help with our SPANISH MAMAS pilot study.
Expectations for working in the lab: Research interns will assist intervention facilitators weekly with the mindful eating intervention classes; be responsible for ongoing communication with study participants; and assist with participant retention. Research interns may also assist staff with screening for eligibility, recruitment and assessment of study participants. Additionally, research interns are encouraged to attend monthly group tutorials that address current issues in health psychology and topics being studied in the department.
