The ARTS INTERN program places college undergraduates from diverse cultural backgrounds in paid summer internships at New York City museums. Eligible applicants must show a financial need and must either be New York City residents or be enrolled in a college or university within the five boroughs of New York City. Since its inception in 1999, this program has provided the structure and funding for students to learn about museum professions.
Please note, this internship is only available for students with an EFC (Estimated Financial Contribution) determined by your FAFSA application of $7,000 or less. Documentation will be required as part of your application.
Museum internships offer opportunities to prepare exhibitions, work with archives, conduct research for catalogs, apply financial and business skills, develop educational materials, and to learn about all facets of a museum's operation. Students may also have a chance to conduct gallery tours and instruct classes for children, and utilize computer and research skills in various marketing and development projects. Interns work alongside museum professionals involved in all facets of the institutions' activities. Participation in ARTS INTERN can impact a student's career path in profound ways.
In addition to the internship projects at the worksite, interns attend weekly visits to participating host institutions. These activities offer students the opportunity to meet a variety of people in the museum world and discover the variety of museums, both large and small, that serve New York City.
Students must be currently enrolled in college as a Freshman, Sophomore or Junior to qualify.
