Citizens Committee for New York City (CCNYC) is seeking a Public/Media Relations intern in its New York City office. The internship is paid. The Media Relations intern will raise media and public awareness of neighborhood issues and neighborhood leaders by positioning CCNYC in the news media, developing media strategies for campaigns, cultivating relationships with reporters and editors, and responding to breaking news.
Media relations interns support the media relations unit by tracking coverage of CCNYC grantees and their neighborhood improvement projects, developing lists of relevant journalists, researching media outlets, planning press conferences, writing internal documents, drafting external materials to be released to the press and participating in various projects that present CCNYC's concerns through the media. The interns may also work on initiatives undertaken by other units within the broader Communications department, such as writing articles for neighborhood blogs, compiling media clips, and posting newsworthy events on social media sites.
The most competitive candidates for a Media Relations internship will possess excellent writing and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong familiarity with the New York City news media. Experience or education in journalism, media studies or public relations is a plus. Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Internet applications, is required.
A 4 to 6-month commitment (3 to 5 days per/week, 8 hours/day) is required and we can work with your schedule. You'll work in a friendly, positive environment, where your ideas will be welcomed and encouraged.
To apply for an internship please email a resume, cover letter, and writing sample to sshah@citizensnyc.org. Deadline is August 15, 2013. No calls please!
