Program Assistant Internship for International Organization in NY

IMANI HOUSE (IHI) Park Slope, Brooklyn New York, Seeks Intern or Volunteer interested in learning about international development by working closely with management in our Brooklyn office to manage aspects of our Liberia W. Africa program. A three (3) month commitment is required and College Credits can be provided if you attend a school that offers credit for this type of internship. The volunteer or intern must commit to at least 3 months. This is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door of African development and learn about health and women's development first hand.

The IHI Liberia program which began in 1985, provides Health Care to more than 18,000 women and children each year through our clinic in Brewerville, Liberia. We also provide Adult Literacy Classes to Market Women at several sites in Monrovia, and Teen pregnancy and HIV prevention at local schools. An Internship with IHI will expose you to the world of international development on the frontlines.

This position may lead to opportunities to transition to the IHI Liberia program on the ground in West Africa. A great opportunity if you are interested in women's development and educational advancement in developing countries.

The Position will allow you to:

  • Work closely with the IMANI HOUSE Exec. Director in an administrative and research capacity
  • Learn grant writing and fundraising outreach strategies
  • Assist in overseeing the link between the IHI Clinic, Adult Literacy, and Teen Pregnancy Prevention programs in Liberia from our NY office
  • Monitor fiscal accountability and reporting via the internet with our Liberian members
  • Help with demographic research, reports, and have good communication skills
  • Work closely with the ED and independently
  • Help improve all levels of communications and support staff in Liberia
  • Reach out to funders, businesses and possible donors in collaboration wth our grant writing team
  • Guide and interface with Liberian Management via the internet
  • Help create strategic plans for expansion of the Liberian Literacy, Education and Health programs
  • Must commit to working with the program for at least 3 months in order to see results of the engagement

Qualifications:

  • College student or graduate at any level or discipline - Interested in International development
  • Good computer and research skills
  • Energetic and creative
  • Good organizational skills
  • Reliable, punctual and cooperative
  • Friendly, able to work independently and in a team
  • Studies in international development, activism and social justice of women's development a plus

IMANI HOUSE will provide transportation cost............................Having worked in or visited developing country is a plus but not essential
