Internship description

Tenants Together is California's only statewide organization for renters' rights. In our efforts to strengthen tenants' rights through state and local legislation, the legislative affairs intern will be responsible to:

  • Prepare research memoranda
  • Contact allies to explain bills and gather support
  • Draft fact sheets on legislation
  • Collect stories from members and allies to support legislative efforts
  • Attend legislative hearings & legislator office visits
  • Update TT members about pending legislation

We are looking for interns who have:

  • Demonstrated commitment to economic justice and tenant rights
  • Familiarity with legislative process and policy advocacy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to explain technical concepts in compelling terms
  • Strong research skills
  • Detail oriented

Interns benefit from direct supervision by our Executive Director, a tenant rights attorney with extensive legislative experience, the opportunity to learn about legislative process and tenant rights, gain firsthand experience in legislative advocacy in Sacramento, and build connections with our community of tenants, advocates, and activists across the state.
