Horizon Peru is a non-profit organization in La Esperanza-Trujillo, Peru. We are located in the lower income section of the city, and as such have a grand opportunity to help those in need. Horizon Peru offers free English education classes for the people in our community who are eager to learn. We also work in the local public school, as well as the local health center. With the help of volunteers, we are able to give our friends and neighbors the opportunity to expand their horizons by using education as a tool for empowerment. Our mission is to improve the lives of the Peruvians in La Esperanza, providing them opportunities which would otherwise not be available, and hope for a better life.

Horizon Peru is a small organization, but we are growing bigger and better. We have exciting ideas for new projects and fundraising events. This opening for Program Coordinator is designed for a committed, hard-working, organized, and creative person looking to make a positive impact on the lives of others through education. The Program Coordinator will report to the Director of Horizon Peru.

This is an unpaid position; however the hired individual will receive free accommodation. We are looking for candidates that are able to commit at least 5 months, beginning in September 2013. This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities of Program Coordinator:

  • Execute teaching schedule and organize class curriculum to ensure class calendars and lesson plans are in place
  • Teach English classes to students in a one-on-one setting or in a larger class environment if volunteers are unavailable
  • Manage a team of volunteers (team typically ranges from 6-10 volunteers at a time)
  • Conduct weekly team meetings to review class progress and identify/address any potential issues
  • Provide training and support for volunteers on arrival

Qualifications for Position:

  • Demonstrated program and project management skills. Ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills – both written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Spanish is not a requirement, however, would be a great asset.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office and other tools including Wordpress, Facebook and other social media programs.
  • Patience, flexibility, team-skills, and interest to work in a developing country and small non-profit organization
  • Must be able to make a time-commitment of 5 months (some room for negotiation) beginning in September 2013
  • Must be 22 years of age, or older
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating volunteers and/or assisting with the running of programs/projects.
  • Experience living/working/volunteering in a Latin American, or other developing countries.
