IMANI HOUSE (IHI) is an award winning, tax-exempt non-profit that provides youth and family development programs in Brooklyn, NY and Liberia W. Africa. Founded in 1985, IHI is known for its free innovative youth and family support services.
IHI is seeking students that are interested in pursuing a career in the field of Education. Imani House will provide a positive and structured internship placement with a focus on classroom management skills for students that are qualified. The education interns would work closely with highly trained staff members while they assist in an afterschool program that caters to approximately 130 children.
NOTE THIS IS AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP FOR COLLEGE CREDIT. Part time hours (15 or more per week) are flexible based upon your availability and internship requirements.
Job Description:·
Assisting with curriculum development for children in at an elementary school level.
Providing homework help for children at various grades and abilities.
Learning to work closely with inner city children.
Practicing lower level management and organizational skills such as: Maintaining calendars, appointments and coordinating parent outreach.·
Assisting Program Staff in various areas.
Qualifications:·
College or Graduate student with a focus on education.
Mac computer proficient, writing and research skills required.
Must be Reliable, Energetic, Creative, Detail Oriented and Patient.
Good organizational skills a necessity.
Excellent communication skills required.
Familiar with office procedures and requirements.
Friendly, able to work both independently and in a team.
Concerned about improving the lives of marginalized youth, women, immigrants and families.
