Internship description

Founded in 1973 and located in New York City, Congregation Beit Simchat Torah (CBST) is the world's largest synagogue serving gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Jews, their families and friends. With over 1,000 members, CBST maintains a broad range of ritual observances, is committed to education programs and social action, and welcomes and supports families in all their varied forms.

We are seeking an intern to support our development and fundraising efforts related to our general operating annual appeals. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support all Annual Appeal (Shabbat Shirah Concert, Open Door Event, High Holy Day Appeal, Yizkor Appeal, and End of Year Appeal) efforts;
  • Report to and support Development Associate for Annual Appeals;
  • Assist in creating social media funding campaigns;
  • Assist in mailings;
  • Help to cultivate and expand the CBST Young Leaders group, the CBST 20s/30s development initiative;
  • Assist our communications associate on communications strategies to the different CBST communities;
  • Assist in event management and production including Shabbat Shirah Concert, the Open Door event, and Open Door CBST Young Leaders event;
  • Research potential foundational partners for future grants;
  • Assist in general development initiatives and fundraising events geared towards our major donors (Rosh Pinah).

People of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Those with relevant experience in the LGBTQ community and/or the Jewish community are highly desired.

This Spring internship would last from January 2013 through the end of May/June 2013. We are willing to be flexible on scheduling but would require two days a week minimum.

Compensation includes a monthly metrocard and $10 a day lunch stipend.
