Cookbook Compilation Internship

Description

Overview of position: The Local Foods Cookbook Intern will assist in the compilation and reformatting of Iskahitaa's Cookbook. The Cookbook highlights the preparation of local foods available in local farms, urban gardens and homeowners backyards that are harvested and redistributed to United Nations refugees and other at risk populations by Iskashitaa's harvesting program and United Nations' refugee recipes. The cookbook compiled by the intern will be sold by Iskashitaa's online, local stores and community events. Intern will research potential sites where cookbook can be sold.

Specific Tasks:

  1. Compile Iskashitaa recipes and pictures for cookbook
  2. Capture and compile recipes from United Nations refugees, often at refugee's homes
  3. Reformat existing Cookbook prototype onto Word or Publisher
  4. Research local stores and venues where cookbook can be sold

Time Required: 6-9 hours per week. Equivalent of 2 or 3 credit course hours.

Qualifications: 4 year degree or 2 year associate's degree or the equivalency in experience

Skills/Education:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral communication and writing skills
  • Interest and/or experience in food justice and sustainability, local foods and cooking
  • Preferred multi-lingual capacity or experience working with multilingual populations- Languages utilized Kiswahili, Nepali, French, Somali, Arabic (not required)
  • Knowledge and expertise in Microsoft Word and Publisher

Experience: Minimum of two year previous nonprofit or volunteer work or the equivalent

Training Required: On-site Iskashitaa training, Refugee 101 and internship application.
