DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS FELLOW

Internship

Internship posted by: Net Impact (Central Office)

Internship description

You know which 140 characters will break through the chatter. You find yourself switching tone of voice when you move from email to Instagram. And you're itching to use your online chops to help people change the world.

Net Impact is a global nonprofit empowering a new generation to create social and environmental change on campus, in the workplace, and the world - and we're looking for someone with a killer online instinct to engage our ever-growing community across our digital channels.

What you'll do (and learn) as the Digital Communications Fellow

Net Impact fellows don't fetch coffee - they're an integrated member of the team, at any given time working directly with staff, members, and the general public. As a critical part of the Marketing team, the Digital Communications Fellow is actively involved with the following:

  • Tracking and participating in conversations across Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other channels
  • Keeping our digital channels, including social media and our blog, up-to-date
  • Supporting email outreach to members, vendors, and media
  • Aggregating and reporting data to help us understand how effective our efforts are
  • Researching and reporting on content, best practices, trends, and engagement opportunities
  • Additional marketing projects as needed

You'll receive hands-on training, more general career opportunities like our Brown-Bag Lunch Professional Development Series, and access to our network of corporate and nonprofit professionals (and our awesome office shindigs). You'll also learn stuff critical to a career in new media (especially using digital communications for good), including:

  • How to use online communication to support global nonprofit marketing campaigns
  • How to measure the efficacy of multiple online channels
  • How to communicate with different departments to deliver effective content
  • How to build a network of professional colleagues to help propel your career forward
  • How communications can drive behavior change for positive impact

Required Qualifications:

  • BA (currently enrolled students okay)
  • 0-2 years of work experience (preferably in an office environment)
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Good judgment, high standards, and excellent eye for detail
  • Demonstrated experience with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other channels
  • Ability to prioritize multiple requests, and take critique and editing gracefully
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office
  • Comfortable learning new technology and software
  • Enthusiastic commitment to Net Impact's mission (seriously – this is important to us, it should be important to you, too!)
  • Flexible, positive attitude, and ability to laugh at stupid jokes
  • Familiarity with video and photo editing/sharing and/or Adobe CS, a plus
