Summary
The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) seeks an energetic, web-savvy and detail-oriented intern to provide support to NWLC's Online Outreach team. The intern's responsibilities focus on social media and blog outreach. The intern must be available during the summer semester with flexible start and end dates between May and August 2013. The intern will ideally be available to work full-time (35 hours per week) during the summer semester, but part-time candidates (20 hours per week) will be considered as well.
The Organization
NWLC is celebrating four decades of advancing opportunities for women and their families, particularly those most in need. We have succeeded in getting new laws on the books and enforced; litigating ground-breaking cases all the way to the Supreme Court, and educating the public about ways to make laws and public policies work for women and their families. Today, an experienced staff of nearly 60 continues to advance the issues that cut to the core of women's lives in education, employment, family and economic security, and health and reproductive rights – with special attention given to the needs of low-income women and their families.
Intern Duties and Responsibilities
The Online Outreach Intern supports the Outreach team with a variety of online outreach projects and activities. Duties may include, but will not be limited to:
In addition, the Online Outreach Intern's responsibilities will include helping to maintain a database of blogger contacts and administrative assistance with the Center's online advocacy tool. As needed, the Online Outreach Intern may also be called on to assist with general outreach efforts to support the work of the Center.
Qualifications
Applicants should be comfortable working with online platforms and must have experience with Facebook and Twitter. Experience working with additional social media networks like Pinterest and Tumblr is preferred. Blogging or other experience writing for the web is highly desirable; HTML experience is a plus. The intern should also have strong writing skills, an eye for detail, and a creative outlook.
NWLC internships are unpaid; NWLC will work with students and their universities to provide college credit for the internship.
