Internship description

Come Work With Us…

Become an Instructor

Outward Bound's New Staff Training is designed for experienced and entry level wilderness instructors interested in full time or seasonal employment with a desire to instruct 20 to 30 day wilderness expeditions. The goal of this training is to orient and train new staff to Outward Bound's at-risk programming and student population so they may begin instructing right away.

If you are available to work now, please help us to learn more about getting you on board before the upcoming New Staff Training.

New Staff Training

New instructors participate in the Instructor internship immediately following the New Staff Training. The internship provides "hands on" learning opportunities so new instructors can hone their wilderness and facilitation skills.

Instructors are provided a $125 weekly stipend each week of the internship, room and board, and reimbursed travel expenses between base camps. Full time employment may be offered anytime throughout the internship.

College credit may be given as part of a field experience or internship requirement, a tuition fee may apply.

New Staff Training and Internship is held three times each year. Upcoming Trainings:

May 9 – late August 2013

August 28 – December 20, 2013

What to Expect...

  • Spend time working at several at-risk base camps throughout Florida and Alabama.
  • Instruct with experienced instructors on up to two 20-30 day wilderness canoe expeditions.
  • Receive individual one-on-one professional development throughout the practicum.
