Internship description

The WISE & Healthy Aging Special Events Intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in event management and fundraising in a professional work environment during a 10-week internship. Reporting to the Volunteer Services Manager and Special Events Program Coordinator, the Special Events Intern is responsible for tasks directly related to the Boomers and Beyond Action Expo. The Special Events Intern will assist with such areas as vendor outreach, corporate research, event management, marketing/ promotion of events, gift bag solicitation, administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned including meeting sponsorship goals for the events.

The WISE & Healthy Aging Boomers and Beyon Action Expo at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium will welcome more than 2,000 older adults and their families and more than 90 exhibitors plus a day filled with presentations on Saturday, April 13th, 2013 from 9am-2pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Manager to identify, solicit and secure gift bag items
  • Coordinate inputting and cataloging of sponsors and vendors
  • Research community organizations, media outlets, and corporate partners in local cities for partnerships
  • Work to promote and market the event
  • Aid in the coordination of event logistics, vendor management, etc.
  • Must be able to attend the event on Saturday, April 13th from 8am-3pm
  • Administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Interest in fundraising, events, media, and gerontology
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness and ability to work well with others
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (PC and MAC experience a plus)
  • Polished written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and/or interest in older adult population
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Must be able and willing to pick up 10lbs
