Description

David Chiu is President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and is in his second term representing District 3. District 3 is comprised of the Northeastern neighborhoods, which include Chinatown, North Beach, Russian Hill, Nob Hill, Barbary Coast, Polk Street, the Financial District, Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf.

We are looking for highly qualified and motivated individuals who want experience working in a fast-paced legislative office. This is an office that handles an extremely high volume of constituent inquiries and requests, has an aggressive legislative agenda, and has to fulfill the administrative and ceremonial functions associated with the being the President of the Board of Supervisors, among many other activities. Policy interns work closely with the Supervisor and his staff of three legislative aides.

Duties:

  • Policy and legislative research and analysis
  • Responding to constituent requests on a wide range of issues
  • Assisting with administration, scheduling & reception activities in City Hall office
  • Producing written materials, including policy briefs, legislation, press releases, newsletter articles, and speeches / talking points
  • Tracking legislation and staffing the Supervisor in committees and meetings
  • Attending community meetings and, at times, representing the Supervisor at meetings and other functions
  • Liaising with other elected officials and their staff, SF government staff, community organizations, district constituents and a wide range of other stakeholders

Time Commitment:

  • Flexible, but minimum 12 hours/week requested

Education Requirement:

  • Interns range from current undergraduate students to graduates of programs in law, policy, & related fields

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Excellent research, analysis, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Passion for public service, District 3, and San Francisco
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and maintain confidentiality

Please note: While all positions are unpaid, internships may fulfill requirements for community service, workforce development programs, externship programs, and course requirements.
