The Foundation Relations Intern (Los Angeles) will have the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of foundation relations, including grant writing, cultivating relationships with foundation partners and fundraising in a professional work environment. Reporting to the Foundation Relations Associate, the Intern is responsible for tasks directly related to national and local fundraising with foundation partners for GLAAD's media advocacy programs. The Intern will spend the majority of their time assisting the Foundation Relations team with writing, editing and producing proposals and reports for current and prospective funders. In addition, the Intern will assist in prospect research, database maintenance, administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Foundation Relations team to produce proposals and reports for current and prospective foundation partners.
- Research, identify and solicit foundation partners for GLAAD's programmatic work.
- Coordinate mailings related to foundation relations.
- Maintain current information and submit updates for foundation partners.
- Maintain and update internal foundation fundraising tracking systems.
- Administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have had previous internship experience or coursework related to non-profit fundraising and grant writing and/or a strong background in writing.
The successful applicant will be:
- A self-starter and creative thinker with interest in foundation relations and grant writing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with limited supervision.
- Computer proficient in word processing, email and Internet research. Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Genuinely concerned and conversant about LGBT issues and have a passion and desire to make a difference.
- Able to work collaboratively and effectively with people of diverse races, ages, ethnicities and sexual identities.
- Interest in fundraising, media and LGBT issues.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program at least half-time as a graduate or undergraduate student.
Location: Los Angeles
Hours: 15-20 hours per week
Duration: Minimum 12 week commitment
