Internship posted by: International Rescue Committee of Baltimore, MD
Posted on: February 26, 2013
Scope:
The IRC has recently partnered with Child Care Aware of America, an organization that will offer refugee and asylee women the training to become licensed child care providers by June 1st—both in their homes, and as teacher assistants in a child care centers.
Home-based childcare provides many benefits for the community because the service increases the supply of convenient, safe, and culturally appropriate child care for mothers who would otherwise have to stay home. Moreover, by opening their own home business, refugee and asylee women will not only generate more income, but also become empowered leaders in their community. Some of these women—though highly qualified and with years of experience—are living in apartments that are not suitable for childcare, and they need help finding a new location. The purpose of this position is to help those women identify safe, affordable, and appropriate housing for Child Care.
