Internship description

Development Intern:

The Arab American Association of New York (AAANY) is seeking a Development Intern. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, grassroots organization based in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Our mission is to support and empower the Arab immigrant community by providing services to help them adjust to their new home and become active members of society. Our aim is for families to achieve the ultimate goals of independence, productivity, and stability.

The Development Internship provides an excellent opportunity to get hands on experience with a dynamic non-profit working with the Arab immigrant community. This is excellent preparation for a career in nonprofit management, fundraising, and work in immigrant or low-income urban communities. The intern will have an opportunity to learn and use the fundraising software "Giftworks" and the accounting software "Quickbooks." The intern will also have the opportunity to draft grant proposals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Associate Director to complete grant applications and reports
  • Research and pursue new funding opportunities.
  • Assist with collecting data from program staff and assist effective data management tool
  • Opportunities to engage with clients will be tailored to the intern's interests.

Requirements:

  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Excellent Writing and Communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Self-Starter, able to operate independently and solve problems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Internet Research Tools
  • Demonstrated interest in Arab world/social justice movements preferred

Start date and hours:

  • Applications are rolling but interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
  • Times and hours are flexible but the intern is expected to commit to 15 hours/week
