Position Description:

The Red Poppy Art House is currently seeking an ambitious individual to serve as Arts Administration Intern to the Executive Artistic Director. The selected candidate will be gain experience working with an innovative and welcoming network of creative professionals. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone educated in the arts to build their practical skill set and apply their studies to the diverse areas of management an arts nonprofit demands.

Associated Duties:

Assist Executive Artistic Director with day-to-day operations of the space, including but not limited to:

- Website content development and management

  • Provides updates to Poppy events calendars in addition to the solicitation and writing, editing of other content

- Financial management

  • Assists with updates to financial logs
  • Helps with compiling materials for submission to Poppy's fiscal sponsor (e.g. payments, deposits)

- Volunteer management

  • Coordinates with volunteers on space/equipment repairs, concession runs, and other miscellaneous tasks

- Development

  • Assists with gathering materials and generating language for grant applications
  • Undertakes research to determine appropriate amounts for project budget items

- House Stewardship

  • Aids with house stewardship including inventory taking of office supplies, concessions, and other required items
  • Assists with taking and returning phone inquiries regarding performances and rentals

The Ideal Candidate:

Might be a student of arts administration, music, curatorial or museum studies, nonprofit management or other related field. Being a student, however, is not a requirement though the candidate must show an interest in developing or expanding on their arts administration skills.

  • Possesses excellent writing skills
  • Is detail-oriented
  • Is friendly, likes being around artists, musicians, creative people, volunteers, and a vibrant community.

Expectations:

  • 12-16 hours/week with flexibility
  • The intern must be willing to commit to at least 3-4 months beginning as soon as possible. An extension of the internship may be considered if the intern demonstrates sufficient capability to complete the required associated tasks.
