Internship description

Save the Harbor/Save the Bay is led by a broad group of civic, corporate, cultural, and community leaders as well as citizens and scientists whose shared mission is to:

  • restore and protect Boston Harbor and Massachusetts Bay
  • reconnect our citizens, our communities and especially our young people to the sea
  • ensure the balanced development of a world-class waterfront for everyone to enjoy

Position Description: Maintain day to day operations of office. Responsibilities include answering phone, receiving/greeting visitors, mail distribution, and ensuring that all office "systems" are organized and working effectively. These include: printers, photocopier, fax, office supplies, printed supplies, and general appearance and organization of common areas such as entrance area, conference room, copier room, and fax/printer area.

The staff assistant will also be called to work on fundraising, event coordination, special projects and ad hoc assignments, as well as provide support to other staffers as needed.

Job Tasks will include:

  • Support Activities: Printing of event materials; assisting in mass mailings of solicitation letters, acknowledgments, and other materials as necessary; supporting the planning process for events; opening and distributing mail; faxing and copying; creating summary sheets for expense and income filing; manage acquisition, inventory, and restocking of office supplies.
  • Database Activities: Data entry; maintain all records in the database, for events, appeals, foundation, individual and miscellaneous supporters to Save the Harbor / Save the Bay

Qualifications:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel (creating spreadsheets), Word (mail merge), and Outlook.
  • Must have good organizational skills, take directions well, complete tasks from start to finish, and be able to multi-task
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Possess a strong attention to detail for heavy data entry
  • Have a positive and helpful attitude
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment

Compensation: Save the Harbor/Save the Bay does not provide stipends for internships, but will work closely with students to see that the internship meets credit requirements. You need not be a student to apply. This position is 15-30 hours a week depending on availability, and is located at our office on Fish Pier in South Boston.

We are looking for applicants for spring internship positions to start as soon as possible.
