General Position Overview

KIPP New Orleans is looking for an information technology intern to assist in providing hardware, software and technical support to KNOS's nine schools. KIPP New Orleans is expanding and will be building out our network significantly this year. The intern will gain hands on experience in day to day IT operations and administration.

About KIPP New Orleans Schools

In its sixth year of operation, KIPP New Orleans Schools (KNOS) is building an influential network of tuition-free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools that empower students with the knowledge and character traits to be lifelong learners and leaders. KNOS operates nine high-performing schools on eight campuses, serving 3,200 of our city's highest-needs students. By 2015, we aim to ultimately grow to 12 schools, five primary, five middle and two high schools. At this scale, KNOS will enroll close to 5,300 students, or 13% of the current public school population in our city. Ultimately, through this work, we endeavor to see 1,000+ first-generation college graduates by 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure and maintain computers, printers, interactive whiteboards and network equipment.
  • Maintain computer labs for student use.
  • Deploy and reimage teacher and student machines.
  • Maintain inventory of technology assets.
  • Provide individual end-user support and training in hardware and software.
  • Participate in infrastructure enhancement projects such as remote access, network monitoring and management and branch consolidation.
  • Develop and maintain both internal technical and end-user documentation.
  • Research and implement technical solutions to problems and our schools' needs.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge and experience with computer hardware
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7.
  • General knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
  • General knowledge of computer and network security.
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a small team and independently.
  • Customer-service orientated.
  • Windows Server, Active Directory, Cisco, Mac OS X and/or Unix/Linux experience a plus
  • Computer related major or prior information technology/technical support experience desirable
