Internship description

Do you love musical theatre? Join us and make an immediate difference in the lives of Costa Rican teens who share your passion. We need energetic, creative individuals to assist with Musical Theatre Connections: Costa Rica, an intensive summer theatre program for teens. Join us in a breathtakingly beautiful environment as we put on a full production of a musical with a fantastic, diverse group of youth. Each intern is expected to take on TWO positions: one from LIST A and one from LIST B below.

LIST A - Primary Position (approximately 70% of your work)

  1. Music Director
  2. Choreographer
  3. Stage Manager
  4. Media Director (photographer, videographer, blog, website, etc.)
  5. Tech Director
  6. Assistant Producer

LIST B - Secondary Position (approximately 30% of your work)

  1. Line Coach
  2. Orchestra Manager
  3. Production Assistant
  4. Costume Designer
  5. Props
  6. Activities Coordinator

These are intense, full-time positions. Interns work 8 - 12 hours per day and have one day off per week.

Job Description - Stage Manager

  • Be present in rehearsals to record blocking for Director and be on book for program participants
  • Manage rehearsal times for staff and participants
  • Stage manage during production run
  • Organize a goup of youth in coordination with Technical Director to form a run crew
  • Liaise with community members to incorporate their skills, expertise and resources

Required Qualifications - Technical Director

  • At least 19 years of age
  • Completion of least 1 year of college/university (or relevant work experience)
  • Passion for musical theatre and working with children/youth
  • Previous experience in stage management
  • Excellent creative problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Experience working with children/youth
  • Interest in and open mind towards immersion in a new culture
  • Flexibility
  • Patience
  • Maturity
  • Leadership experience
  • Commitment to abide by our drug/alcohol policy
  • Willingness to learn some Spanish (Spanish proficiency is valued but not required)
