Position Summary:
Research and Development Interns work directly with the Executive Director to develop cultural profiles on refugee groups in the Grand Rapids community. Interns are responsible for the development of information, resources, and trainings pertinent to the needs of West Michigan Refugee Education and Cultural Center's outreach and volunteer development work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research assigned country/countries via print, online and other media resources
- Develop cultural backgrounder workbook and training (including Power Point)
- Must build relationships in community of interest (the assigned country/countries) using community development principals
- Responsible to facilitate working relationship between ethnic community leaders and WMRECC
- Must present finalized cultural backgrounder and training to volunteers upon completion of internship
Expected Educational Outcomes:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the issues pertaining to refugee communities and the organizations working with them
- Be able to present research findings to relevant and interested audiences
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in college (Majors in International Relations, Social Work and related fields especially encouraged to apply)
- Strong communications and writing skills.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail-oriented.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and cultural competence.
