POSITION SUMMARY:

In partnership with the Confluence Environmental Center, the OUV Communications Outreach Developer will collaborate with staff to strengthen, promote, implement, and document Our United Village's overall outreach and communications program with the goal of further developing community involvement and informing a diverse range of organizations and individuals about all aspects of Our United Villages. This includes outreach to generate presentation and public speaking events, recruiting and training volunteers to represent OUV at community events, making connections with prospective community partners and other organizations, conducting tours, creating and maintaining presentation and display materials, helping promote educational opportunities, workshops and classes, and further developing The ReBuilding Center's Creative Reuse Library. S/he will use Our United Villages communications tools to maximize social media and other online outreach opportunities. S/he will create mechanized training materials (videos, tutorials) to document how projects are done.

Essential Functions (to include, but not limited to):

  • Plan and coordinate strategic community outreach to generate presentation and public speaking opportunities to enhance awareness of Our United Villages, including its departments: the Community Legacy Program, The ReBuilding Center, DeConstruction Services, the Driving Department, and ReFind Furniture.
  • Build appropriate relationships with local groups and organizations, schools, communities and businesses to achieve organizational goals and objectives. Record key contact and other information.
  • Maintain and further develop the Our United Villages showroom area to provide up-to-date, appropriate and accessible information.
  • Maintain and further develop The ReBuilding Center's Creative Reuse Library – both online and print.
  • Expand Our United Villages' online outreach capacity using web site, social media and other internet-based tools.
  • Expand Our United Village's ReFind Workshops program to include broader participation from diverse and low-income communities.
  • Participate with staff by representing OUV and its programs and services at tabling and other outreach events.
  • Conduct targeted outreach to recruit volunteer contributions to the Reuse Library and social media venues. Recruit and train volunteers to represent OUV at tabling and other outreach events.
  • Create and circulate "Today's Finds" email newsletter.
  • Develop mechanized training tools to expand capacity by documenting procedures and projects.
  • Provide tours of Our United Villages and The ReBuilding Center, as requested and appropriate.
  • Collaborate with staff to further develop resource materials for community and industry presentations.
  • Evaluate outreach and communications program and make recommendations.
  • Participate actively in promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Complete and submit all necessary Confluence/AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend and complete all Confluence/AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, training's, team meetings and national service days.
  • Wear Confluence uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.

  • Basic skills in communications, education, outreach, marketing, and/or public relations.
  • Highly proficient with computers and computer applications. Fluent in Office Suite. Familiar with social media and web site maintenance. InDesign capacity a plus.
  • Comfortable and confident speaking to the public and groups of all ages.
  • Organization skills and ability to take initiative.
  • Self-motivated and directed.
  • Demonstrate grace and humor under pressure.
  • A cooperative manner and the ability to serve as part of a diverse team.
  • 18 years of age or older, at beginning of service term.
  • U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving award.
  • Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
  • Must successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through the State of Oregon Clearinghouse, FBI criminal identification systems, the member's home state, and upon a satisfactory report from the National Sex Offender Registry.
  • Regular and reliable attendance and dependability.
  • AmeriCorps members can enroll in multiple terms of service that add up to the value of two full-time education awards. In other words, you can blend summer, part-time and full-time service positions and receive awards as long as the combined service terms don't exceed two full terms. Preferred Qualifications

  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English (or other)
  • Reside inner North/Northeast Portland
  • Knowledge of used building materials
  • Familiarity with low-income communities and/or communities of color.

Step 2 - Apply to Confluence: The application takes time to complete; we recommend you complete it before or right after Step 1. Application materials can be completed online at the AmeriCorps website and submitted to a Confluence position. A complete Member application includes the following:

  • AmeriCorps Application
  • Two Written References – These are included in the AmeriCorps online application.
  • Online Certification Form – This document must be mailed to our office with an original date and signature (no fax). This form is included in the AmeriCorps online application or it can be found on the Confluence website.

Step 3 - Interview:Recommended candidates will interview with Confluence Environmental Center.

Step 4 – Position Placements: Confluence will make all official placement offers. No offers will be made until steps 1-3 are complete.
