Internship description

GameDesk is seeking applications for a Content Writer Internship. As a part of the GameDesk curriculum development and web content team, you will act as critical thinker and insightful evaluator, master documenter, and content expert in deep collaboration with a team composed of researchers, subject matter experts, web developers, artists, writers, and educators. Alongside this inspiring and interdisciplinary team, you will participate in the development and launch of the GameDesk portal, a web-based Netflix for education, which will help educators nationwide implement 21st century technology and teaching practice in the classroom. You'll also work closely with the PlayMaker school, a sixth grade play and making based curriculum currently in operation at New Roads School in Santa Monica. As an educational expert you might also assist with Educade LA (GameDesk's community building initiative) events or help run professional development workshops. Moving through these contexts, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience conducting groundbreaking and important research into play-based education, and participating in the development and evaluation of new pedagogical practices and lesson modules designed to meet the needs of a changing economy, world, culture, and classroom. As a valued contributor to our team, you will be empowered to take ownership over specific pieces of content that you will personally shepherd from conception to completion. You'll also get a diverse perspective on start-up culture and business development and strategy in an invigorating and colorful environment like no other.

Although this is an unpaid internship, your time with us will certainly be memorable, and you'll see your work have a measurable impact on GameDesk and the students and families we support. And we'll do our best to get you the experience you need to advance your career. Of course, you will also have the opportunity to receive course credit depending on your university and department's requirements and opportunities.
