Internship description

Bay Localize, an Oakland-based nonprofit dedicated to environmental sustainability and social justice, seeks a motivated and organized Communities for Resilience and Office Management Intern. This is a stipended volunteer opportunity out of Bay Localize's office in downtown Oakland, with a $350/month expense reimbursement for 10 hours/week of work. We also offer weekly team trainings on the environmental and social justice movements, advocacy skills, and advancing your career! This is a great opportunity to gain experience in both climate resilience and nonprofit management.

This position works with the Director. Primary responsibilities include:

Communities for Resilience Program

  • Support the rollout of the programs to bridge community organizers, youth, and planners in preparing for the regional impacts of climate change on the Bay Area.
  • Community outreach and follow-up via phone and email.

Office Administration

  • Maintain smooth functioning of office administrative systems.
  • Enter data into Salesforce contact database as needed.
  • Participate in and take notes at meetings.
  • Procure office supplies as needed.
  • Assist with additional administrative and outreach tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Responsible, very organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Quick learner who is comfortable taking responsibility for tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Available 10 hours/week for a minimum of 3 months. Internship period is often extended beyond 3 months upon mutual agreement.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and databases. Knowledge of mapping programs a plus.
  • Good written and verbal communication and people skills, in person and on the phone.
  • Quick learner who is familiar with impacts of climate change, environmental sustainability, and social justice. Knowledge of urban planning a plus.
  • Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.
