Internship description

The National Immigrant Women's Advocacy Project is offering an opportunity for high school students who are interested in women's and immigrant rights to volunteer with us this summer. The 15-40 hour per week internship will include an opportunity to work on the following types of projects:

  • Facilitate communication between the director and policy makers, grantors, law enforcement, and others;
  • Assist NIWAP legal staff in responding to legal questions from state, local and federal government agencies and from advocates and attorneys across the country.
  • Assist in the development of a database of grants and loans available to all students attending colleges & universities without regard to immigration status;
  • Update NIWAP's website and web library;
  • Schedule flights and make other travel arrangements;
  • Manage the director's calendar and e-mail;
  • Help process payments and reimbursements.

Applicants should have experience with e-mail and calendar programs, and have or be interested in gaining web design, development, and writing experience.

The National Immigrant Women's Advocacy Project Law (NIWAP, pronouncednew-app) is an experiential learning opportunity at American University Washington College of Law. NIWAP's work benefits immigrant women, children, and immigrant survivors of domestic abuse, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes. We are a national provider of training, legal and social science research, policy development, and technical assistance to advocates, attorneys,pro bonolaw firms, law schools, universities, law enforcement, prosecutors, social service and health care providers, justice system personnel, and other professionals who work with immigrant women, children and crime victims.
