Communications & Marketing Intern

Description

Services for the UnderServed (SUS) is seeking a college or graduate student to support the organization's marketing and communications needs. The work schedule is flexible, but the candidate should expect to work 16-24 hours per week and ideally would be able to committ for the full academic year. This is an opportunity for an intern looking to use their writing, social media and communications skills to creatively contribute to supporting a leading nonprofit organization.

SUS has gained a reputation for supporting Veterans and individuals and families faced with a wide range of challenges—mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and HIV/AIDS, often compounded by homelessness and unemployment. SUS works to provide housing and services for individuals with speical needs to live with digity in the community, direct their own lives and attain personal fulfillment.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, write and edit content for multiple communications platforms, including the blog, newsletters, website and other marketing material
  • Enhance the organization's creative and digital storytelling
  • Develop messaging, content and strategy for social media platforms
  • Search for relevant articles and resources related to developmental disabilities, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Veterans, and homelessness, and help to identify media opportunities
  • Update the website with event listings and blog posts
  • Monitor social media, Constant Contact and website traffic
  • Assist the Communications department with other tasks, as needed

Requirments:

Currently enrolled/registered and in good standing in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in an accredited college/university. - Background in public relations, communications, marketing or other related disciplines - Excellent writing and oral communications skills - Experience in Wordpress or other web content management systems preferred - Proficient with Microsoft Office, Publisher, and Excel - Adept at coordinating multiple tasks, projects and meeting deadlines - Excellent organization skills, and must be able to work independently - Knowledge and experience with major social media platforms including Hootsuite, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn - Knowledge of Adobe Suite and graphic design preferred - Interest in nonprofit communications strongly preferred
