The American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho (ACLU-ID) seeks applicants to consider for sponsorship of Equal Justice Works, Skadden, Soros, and other public interest law fellowship proposals, to begin Fall 2014. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be an integral part of the Idaho affiliate of the ACLU, the nation's premier guardian of liberty, throughout the fellowship term. This opportunity is not funded by the ACLU-ID. The ACLU-ID will only cooperate with the successful applicant to try to obtain funding from national fellowship programs.
The ACLU-ID will work with the selected candidate to develop a fellowship project involving the protection of civil liberties or improvement of equality and equity in the State of Idaho. We will consider project ideas with any civil liberties or equality focus, but we encourage all applicants to review the ACLU-ID website (www.acluidaho.org) and our recent work and priorities, which include indigent defense, LGBT equality, immigrant rights, freedom of speech and assembly, and prisoner safety. Cover letters should either briefly propose a particular project or identify one or two specific areas of interest.
The successful candidate, if funded for a fellowship, will be based in the ACLU-ID office in Boise, Idaho, and supervised by the Legal Director of the ACLU-ID. Any funded fellow will be encouraged to seek admission to practice in Idaho's state and federal courts, and some fellowship projects may require the fellow to at least maintain Licensed Legal Intern status with the Idaho State Bar.
We will be accepting applications until July 8, 2013. We will give preference to early applications. Please send a resume, cover letter, writing sample, and three references to Richard Eppink, Legal Director, ACLU of Idaho, P.O. Box 1897, Boise, ID 83701 or reppink@acluidaho.org.
