Background of the Children Rehabilitation and Educational Program:

In March 2014, the outbreak of the Ebola virus spread rapidly across Liberia and by December, it has already claimed the lives of over 5,000 deaths as reported by the World Health Organization. And due to the continual alarming death rate which include doctors and nurses follow by the increasing suspected cases, by August, the Government of Liberia declared a state of emergency and introduced safety measures and best hygiene practices including washing of hands to combat the spread of the deadly virus. However, Cultural barriers, lack of adequate awareness and denials were the major causes of the raped spread of the virus. Today, the nation is already recovering from the virus but left behind many orphans, who lost their parents and have become vulnerable, marginalized and discriminated in communities across the country. In the wake of the pandemic, neighboring countries such as Guinea, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast that were trading basic commodities with Liberia did closed their borders to prevent additional cases in their countries. Foreign investors were already pulling out of Liberia while airlines were cancelling flights to the country. Basic commodities such as rice, oil, flour and sugar that were imported from foreign countries have reduced in supply. Therefore the current prices of available commodity have triple. It is all these shortages that placed the unaccompanied orphans under a critical emergency situation that need a timely respond. Today, the most affected population is the refugee children who lost their parents during the Ebola crisis. Some of these children even lost their lives by hunger and starvation before our intervention while the rest of them continue to suffer as we seek a stable live condition for them.

The Foundation for Charity and Development established Fleur's Learning Center which provides basic education for children who would not otherwise have access to a proper education. The local community has supported the Foundation's work financially and in-kind, but this is a poor community, so our funds are limited. We are grateful to friends outside of Liberia who have been able to send through new learning materials and who are now helping with new fundraising initiatives.

Volunteerism Our programs are all free of charged. The Foundation programs are run by local and international volunteers who have the ambition and motivation to serve humanity and share their experience with others from all works of live. Holistically, our objective is to help promote, improved and transcend the lives of the disadvantaged and underprivileged in society through developmental programs. As a grassroots organization, we are still working on our mobilizing resources to be able to provide free accommodation for all of our international volunteers.

Summer Trips We organize trips for our volunteers to have the opportunity to visit historic and astrictive tourist sites in Liberia. Some of these areas are listed below.

Providence Island: This is where the first batch of slaves from the USA was initially settled in Liberia.

The great Kpatawe water fall: This huge water fall is located in Bong County very attractive and wonderful and is about three hours driving from the capital.

Wologisi Mountain: is the highest mountain peak in Liberia

Located in Lofa County and is a whole day drive form the city. You would not want to stop looking at that vast savanna land scape with a huge body of rock touching the sky in view.

Workier farm: has the largest zoo in Liberia where you find different type of spices from the tropical rain forest and desert of West Africa.

The beaches are also cool and entertaining. Suitable for weekend relaxation.

The Refugee Settlement The Sierra Leonean refugees are residing on a piece of land located on the hill side of the VOA Community situated right at the out sketch of the capital city Monrovia. Some of the residences here are engaged in making small garden where they produce variety of vegetables and ground crops to supply the local market. The settlement is very attractive with few schools, churches and Mosques. There are about three local football field where local teams show up for soccer catches and other sporting events.

There are taxies and buses located at the out sketch of the settlement conveying passengers from central Monrovia to the settlement and other communities along the district.

Our program is free of charge to all local and international volunteers who have the compassion to serve humanity and improve the lives of the less fortunate in society.

We also help our volunteers in identifying and arranging for their accommodation, travels, and tourism while caring on their work with the Foundation.
