Internship description

Americans for Informed Democracy is a national student network taking action around US global engagement. We are seeking a Network Coordinator, who will play a key leadership role in our student-led network. This is a year-long, virtual, volunteer position that offers the amazing opportunity to build leadership, organizing, campaigning and communications skills.

Who we are: Americans for Informed Democracy (AIDemocracy)'s vision is that every young person in the United States exercises their power to bring about a peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable world. Our mission is to educate, cultivate and mobilize a network of young people to take informed action around our individual and collective roles as global citizens. We are the only national youth network that takes a comprehensive approach to global issues, and we place equal emphasis on empowering young leaders and inspiring action to build a better world.

Responsibilities: The Network Coordinator will work with our Student Advisory Board to identify strategy for the year, and taking the lead in implementing it. The Coordinator will work closely with other Coordinators, and will also provide hands-on training and support our four student teams: blogging, social media, actions and journal. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and implementing network strategy. Work with the Advisory Board to identify objectives and workplan for the following: building our community, branding/marketing, fundraising and evaluation.
  • Supporting student teams leading our work around social media, actions / campaigns, our bi-annual journal, and blogging. This involved helping teams craft work plans, complete activities, and measure success.
  • Oversee network communications, ensuring that team members have the information, connections and resources they need to get their jobs done.
  • Serving as friend, mentor and advisor to student team members, providing constant encouragement and excitement about our vision.

The Details: This is a virtual, volunteer position. Coordinators will contribute 15-20 hours/month through July 2013.

Skills and Qualifications Needed: This is an exciting position for a proven young leader who wants to take his/her skills to the next level. Applicants should have some experience leading peers around social change - that can include playing a key role in a club on campus, in a community organization, or in an online community. The biggest thing we're looking for are people who are excited, want to learn, believe in our mission, and can make this commitment.

How to apply

Please send a resume and short statement detailing why you're interested in this position to: opportunities@aidemocracy.org. We are only able to contact those chosen for an interview. Applications accepted on a rolling basis, and Coordinator will start this month (September).
