Compassion & Choices(C&C) is the nation's leading end-of-life choice advocacy, education and support group.

We offer free counseling, planning resources, referrals and guidance, and across the nation we work to protect and expand options at the end of life.

Overall Responsibility:

Support Communications and Marketing Director and Media Relations Manager in Washington, DC, and learn from their decades of experience promoting civil and human rights causes.

Daily, Weekly and Ongoing Responsibilities:

·Compose list of important news pieces, blog posts, etc. to be circulated to Communications and Marketing staff.

·Create and manage blogs/writers lists with all available contact info for C&C Communications and Marketing staff.

·Proofread news releases.

·Draft responses to online postings and other writing assignments.

·Creation and maintenance of Media Contact/Outlet lists in Vocus.

·Various office tasks: burning copies of cd/dvds, mailing items, printing and compiling news pieces for various binders, preparing and emailing project files to staff, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student interested in and passionate about end-of-life issues, politics and media.
  • Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability tointerface well with all programs/departments in the organization and to represent the Communications team in a highly professional manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and to work independently when projects are due.
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.
  • Solid experience with computer spreadsheets.
  • Interest and/or experience in advocacy preferred.

Term:

This internship is a part-time (up to 20 hours/week) to begin in the fall of 2013 for approximately 20 weeks (start and end dates flexible)

Compensation:

Unpaid; academic credit available.
