Description

The Hort is posting this internship on behalf of a landscaping partner organization. Individual will work soley for the partner organization.

Background Preparation:

Must be admitted at the advanced level of an accredited BLA or MLA program.

Basic technical skills
Microsoft Office, AutoCAD 2009 or higher, Adobe Photoshop, Sketch-up

Design/Graphics skills
Candidate shall demonstrate through portfolio proficiencies:
1. Renderings by hand.
2. Design innovation
3. Computer applications
4. Detailing and understanding of construction materials.

5. Measure drawings

Presentation skills
Though not necessarily ready for client exposure, this person should, in the interview
1. Have a strong hand-shake
2. Make good eye contact
3. Explain interests, background, answer questions articulately
4. Show enthusiasm for the firm and the profession
5. Demonstrate a professional appearance

Communication skills
Relate experiences that demonstrate the ability to be a good communicator in the office
1. Held an officer position in a club or student organization that required coordination
2. Involved others in decision making
3. Requests help from professors or others when needed

4. Ability to listen and take notes

Teamwork & Initiative
Examples that demonstrate the potential for teamwork in the office
1. Refers to others when explaining school organization or work related achievements
2. Liked working in teams, study groups or at the outdoor environment for long hours
3. Showed initiative in school or work activities

Personal characteristics
Passion, integrity, commitment to the profession, determination, persistence. Ready to work hard to move ahead.
